Due to other commitments, Kadettfest 2023 was held on last Sunday in March this year but it was all for luck. I may have used up good weather tokens for next 5 years for this years event but if that is the case, it was well worth it.

We had a new meeting point this year at Aldi car park in town center. The sun shone as cars gathered from 10.00 and there was lots of time to admire the assembled machinery before run departed just after Midday.
We headed out of town and towards Bonniconlon and the Ox mountains. Once through Bonniconlon and heading towards Lough Talt, we regrouped at a Lay-by that marked the wind farm entrance. Although the road surface into the windfarm was unsealed it was well maintained and made for easy progress right up to the base of the imposing wind mills. With a panoramic view of North Mayo as a backdrop and classic Opels meeting modern wind power in the foreground, it made for some impressive pics.

Leaving the windfarm, we drove across the windy gap and along the shore of Lough Talt. Once past the Lough we took a scenic route towards Dromore west stopping along the way at Lough Easkey giving drivers and passengers a chance to stretch their legs and take in the rugged Sligo scenery.

The drive down towards Dromore West took in more spectacular views. Once we reached the main road we look a left towards Ballina and made our final stop at The Hill Top filling station which was the finish point for the run. Refuelling man and machinery and more pics was the order of the day.

Many thanks to all that made the trek west for this years KadettFest. The weather did play its part but the metal on display was next level. The pics don't do it justice. Thanks again to all that made the day and thanks to everyone that voted. Kadettfest 2023 marked 50 years of the Kadett C and the result of the voting was a fitting tribute.

Drivers Choice best Kadett

Overall Drivers Choice by 1 vote is

This is the first year a Kadett has taken both and I must say a worthy choice from incredible standard. Impossible for me to choose between them.

An honourable mention in voting goes to the following:
Brian Naughton's Kadett coupe was next most popular in best Kadett.

Overall driver choice had 2 tied in second place . John Unkles Ascona and Andy Finns Manta 400r.

This year had the most cars nominated for Kadettfest overall Drivers Choice which was was a true reflection of the standard of metal on display.
